The deskbird MCP server connects ChatGPT directly to your deskbird workspace, so you can ask questions about your offices in plain language and get answers based on live data. Instead of exporting reports and building pivot tables, you simply ask, and ChatGPT reads bookings, scheduling, and utilization data to answer. The connection works in the ChatGPT desktop app. All access is read-only: ChatGPT can look at your data, but it can never change, create, or delete anything in deskbird.

1. What you can do with it

The MCP server gives ChatGPT a small set of read-only tools that cover the data you already see in deskbird:

• User overview: list and filter the users in your company.
• Analytics queries: flexible questions across bookings, scheduling, and utilization data.
• Resource hierarchy: browse offices, floors, and zones, including occupancy statistics.
• Schema documentation: helps ChatGPT understand your data so it queries it correctly.

This is designed for the questions that usually take a few clicks through analytics dashboards: understanding demand, spotting underused space, and planning ahead with confidence.

2. Before you start

To set up the connection, make sure that:

• You are a Global Admin in deskbird. Only Global Admins can authorize a connection.
• Your company is on a deskbird plan that includes the MCP server (Desks Professional or Enterprise).
• You have the ChatGPT desktop app installed and are signed in to your ChatGPT account.

⚠️ ChatGPT in the browser (chatgpt.com) does not support this type of MCP server connection. This is a limitation on the ChatGPT side, not in deskbird. Download and use the ChatGPT desktop app instead.

3. Connect ChatGPT to deskbird

The deskbird MCP server is added to the ChatGPT desktop app as an MCP server. Use this server URL:

💡 If your company is hosted in the deskbird US environment, use https://connect.us.deskbird.com/mcp instead.

1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app and go to Settings > MCP servers.
2. Select Add server.
3. Enter a name, for example deskbird, and choose Streamable HTTP as the server type.
4. In the URL field, enter the server URL. Leave Bearer token env var, Headers, and Headers from environment variables empty.
5. Save the server and select Restart when prompted.
6. In the server list, select Authenticate next to the deskbird server. Your browser opens so you can log in with your deskbird account.
7. Review the consent screen and approve the connection.
8. Back in the ChatGPT desktop app, check that the toggle next to deskbird is switched on.

💡 To confirm the connection, type /mcp in the ChatGPT message field. The deskbird server should appear in the list of connected servers.

⚠️ If your company manages ChatGPT centrally (for example ChatGPT Business or Enterprise), your ChatGPT workspace admin can restrict which MCP servers are allowed. If the deskbird server is added but stays disabled, ask your ChatGPT admin to approve https://connect.deskbird.com/mcp (or the US URL).

4. Example questions to ask

Once connected, you can ask questions in your own words. A few examples to get started:

• "How was desk utilization in our Berlin office last month?"
• "Which weekdays are busiest across all our offices this quarter?"
• "Which floors or zones are consistently underused, and where do we run out of desks?"
• "How many people are scheduled to be in the office next week?"
• "Compare average office attendance between Berlin and Munich over the last three months."

You can follow up in the same conversation to narrow things down (by office, floor, zone, or time period) and ask ChatGPT to summarize the findings for a team update.

5. Data access and security

• Company-scoped: every request is limited to your own company. ChatGPT cannot read data from other companies, and this scope cannot be widened.
• Admin-only: only Global Admins can authorize a connection, and the Global Admin role is re-checked on every request.
• Read-only: the tools can only read data. Nothing in deskbird can be created, changed, or deleted through the connection.
• Revocable: you can switch off or uninstall the deskbird server in ChatGPT at any time. Sessions also expire on their own.
