The deskbird integration for Slack brings workplace planning into your team's Slack workspace, letting employees see and manage their bookings, book their favorites in seconds, and keep their Slack status in sync with their deskbird status — all without leaving Slack. This article covers admin setup and what the integration enables users to do.
1. Installation
Setting up the deskbird Slack integration requires two steps:
Step 1 — Slack admin installs the app
A Slack workspace admin must install the deskbird app via the link below and grant the required app permissions. This makes deskbird available across the organization's Slack workspace.
Step 2 — Each user activates their account
After the admin installs the app, each user must add deskbird individually. Users open the deskbird app in Slack, go to the Home tab, and click Log in to connect their deskbird account.
2. What the integration enables
The Slack integration is available to all employees who use Slack. Once set up, it gives them the following directly in Slack:
- Booking management: view the day's bookings, book favorites or suggestions directly, and check in, finish early, or cancel bookings (see Booking management)
- Scheduling: employees can set their work status (office, remote, or home) for any day without leaving Slack
- Status sync: keep a Slack status in line with the deskbird status, with full control over when it applies (see Status sync)
- Booking notifications: real-time confirmations and reminders when bookings are created, updated, or cancelled
3. Booking management
Employees can manage their day-to-day bookings straight from the deskbird app in Slack, without switching to the web or mobile app:
- See the day's bookings: employees get an overview of their bookings for the day at a glance
- Book directly: employees can book a favorite or a suggested resource in a single step
- Manage a booking: employees can check in, finish early, or cancel a booking directly from Slack. If the check-in feature is enabled, they receive a prompt with a check-in action when their booking starts
4. Status sync
Status sync reflects an employee's deskbird status in their Slack status, so colleagues can see where they are working. The behavior gives users more control:
- Manual statuses are respected: deskbird no longer overwrites a Slack status that the employee has set manually
- Matching emojis: Slack status emojis are mapped to the icon library used in the status settings of the main deskbird app, so the Slack status matches what employees see in deskbird
- Opt out anytime: each employee can disable Slack status sync in their personal settings if they prefer to manage their Slack status themselves
5. Data processing
For information on how data is processed through the Slack integration, see the deskbird privacy policy.
