Occupancy analytics shows how your offices are actually used, based on real presence detected by deskbird Dock instead of bookings alone. The dashboards under Intelligence > Dock analytics break this down into three views — office, floor, and desk — so space, facility, and workplace teams can see where capacity is under pressure, where it sits idle, and when peak hours really happen.

1. Who can access occupancy analytics
Occupancy analytics is available to Admins and Office Admins when Dock analytics is enabled for the company.
Open it under Intelligence > Dock analytics. Three dashboards are available:
- Office occupancy — how full the office is overall
- Floor occupancy — how usage is distributed across floors and areas
- Desk occupancy — how efficiently individual desks are used
2. How the data is collected
All metrics come from deskbird Dock presence events. When an employee's laptop is detected in the office, Dock records an anonymous presence signal.

3. Filters that apply to every dashboard
Every KPI and chart respects the filters at the top of the page:
- Offices — scope the data to one or more offices (Office occupancy) or to a single office (Floor and Desk occupancy)
- Date range — last 7 days, last month, last year, or a custom range
Changing the date range updates all numbers on the page. Peak values always refer to the busiest moment within the selected period, not to the current day.
Closed weekdays (taken from the office opening hours) and public holidays are excluded from daily trends where relevant.
On the Floor and Desk dashboards, several charts also include a Floor selector so a single floor can be viewed at a time.
4. Percentages vs. counts
On hourly heatmaps, the display can be switched between:
- Capacity % — the occupied share of capacity, which is the easiest way to compare spaces of different sizes
- N° Employees (Office) or N° Desks (Floor and Desk) — absolute counts
Heatmap colours always reflect capacity %, even when absolute numbers are displayed.

5. Office occupancy dashboard
This dashboard answers the question: how full is the office, really? It covers overall attendance, peak days, presence length, and capacity usage across the office.

This dashboard answers the question: which floors are underused, and which are under pressure? It compares attendance and utilization across floors and team areas.

💡 Tip: Floor accuracy depends on how completely monitors are mapped to desks on the floor plan. Incomplete mapping makes floors look emptier than they are.

This dashboard answers the question: how efficiently are our desks used, and how many sit empty? It shows desk-level utilization based on mapped monitor detection.

8. Prerequisites for accurate data
For reliable occupancy analytics, make sure that:
- Employees have deskbird Dock installed and running on their work devices.
- Office network presence is configured under Admin > Presence detection > Office detection.
- For floor and desk metrics, monitors are mapped to desks on a published floor plan under Admin > Presence detection > Desk detection.
- Enough time has passed for presence data to accumulate within the selected date range.
If presence has never been detected, the dashboards show Occupancy analytics unavailable. If the selected period is simply quiet, individual widgets show No data for this period while the rest of the page keeps working.
9. Tips for reading the dashboards
- Start with Office occupancy for the overview, then drill into Floor and Desk when making space decisions.
- Use a longer date range, such as last month, for planning; use shorter ranges to investigate a specific week.
- Low Resource utilization combined with healthy Daily attendance usually means people are on site but not plugged into mapped monitors. Check monitor mapping coverage before drawing conclusions about desk demand.
- Presence duration helps distinguish full-day workers from short drop-in visits, which matters when planning desk-to-employee ratios.
- The insights shown under the charts summarize the same data automatically — they do not add a separate data source.
10. FAQs
Occupancy analytics is based on real presence detected by deskbird Dock, through the office network and mapped monitors. It does not use booking data.
Office attendance includes everyone detected on the office network or at a mapped monitor. Desk and floor utilization only counts devices at mapped monitors. If monitor mapping is incomplete, desk metrics will report lower than office attendance.
Dock counts detected devices. In practice this closely tracks the number of people on site, but someone using several devices, or someone present without Dock running, can create small differences.
No. These dashboards show aggregated occupancy only, and individual identities are never displayed.
The displayed numbers change, but the colour scale always reflects capacity %. This keeps patterns comparable across offices and floors of different sizes.
Closed weekdays from the office opening hours and public holidays are excluded from daily trends where relevant, so they do not pull weekday averages down.
